Rishi Purekar, a seventh-grader from Boulan Park Middle School in Troy, has earned a spot as a semifinalist in the 2007 Michigan Geographic Bee, to be held March 30 at Central Michigan University.  The 2007 Geographic Bee is sponsored by the National Geographic Society and JPMorgan Chase.  Bees were held for fourth- through eighth-graders throughout Michigan to determine school-level winners.  Rishi advanced to the state competition by coming first in his school and by earning one of the top 100 scores in a state-administered test.

The Michigan winner will receive $100 and a trip to the finals at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., on May 22-23. The national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship.
