Glad to see that City staff followed through on a Council resolution passed earlier this year. No more "Holiday Tree!"
Here's the news release from the City's Community Affairs Department...
Brighten this holiday season by joining Santa Claus at City Hall for the Annual City of Troy Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 4 at 7 pm. The event takes place outdoors on Veterans Plaza at City Hall, 500 West Big Beaver. All residents are invited to bring their families and friends for an evening of caroling, cookies, hot cocoa, and fun.
“Each year this event gives that ‘small town’ feel to the holiday spirit here in Troy,” Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart said. “This will be the second year for our official Christmas tree, a beautiful Colorado spruce generously donated by Tom’s Landscape owned by Scott Sexton.”
The festivities get underway with caroling, led by the Athens High School Choir under the direction of Dan Stevens. Hot cocoa will be available through the generosity of Kosch Catering, and holiday sweets will be provided by the Ridgedale Players and the Troy Jaycees. At 7:30 pm, Mayor Louise Schilling welcomes Santa as he makes his grand entrance to light the holiday tree. He’ll also join in the singing and, of course, visit with the little ones.
“I’ve made my list, checked it twice, and once again I’m pleased to see it includes so many good little boys and girls from Troy,” Santa said. “I look forward to visiting with the dear little ones who are so wide-eyed and enchanted by the joyful holiday spirit.”
The event will be cablecast on WTRY (cable WOW, 10/Comcast, 53) throughout December. For more information, call the Community Affairs Department at 248.524.1147.
