Here's a reader comment posted to the Free Press...
Hey David Lambert, YOU are the kinda of image I DON'T want for the City of Troy. Stuck up and Holier then thou. I'm a resident that has Hooters in my neighborhood and literally have to drive by the one on John R on the way to Grandma's house in the senior complex S of Big Beaver. What is the Big deal? It's a building with owl's on it. It is not like the women with the big boobs are going to be serving food and drinks on the corner. Oh its OK for the image to be Burger King, that delapitated Ram's horn, they empty Corey dinette store front. Oh that really makes me feel I am coming into a classy city. Get over yourself and save the city some damn money so they can come back and re-pave my street like they were suppose to over 7 years ago when they put in the drains, but ran over budget. I KNOW I won't be checking the box next to your name in the next election. hehehe
From the opposite side of the aisle, is this email...
I urge you to stand against a culture of sexual promiscuity and sexual exploitation by standing firm to prevent Hooters from relocating to the major gateway to Troy. Dave Lambert ran on a promise to promote and maintain Troy as a "family friendly city," and most on council have signed on to this as well, not only in campaign promises, but in the image that you, yourselves, bring to the council table. Troy voters see each and every one of you as a mainstay of our values, and that is why you have been given the great honor to represent the citizens of Troy. The image of Hooters certainly could not co-exist with the very image that you yourselves project. Values and image go to the core of what a community is. If anyone has any doubt of that, look at what the neighborhoods and outskirts of Detroit were, and what they are today. Take a trip down 6, 7, or 8 mile and do some research on the history of those areas. A valueless community is a community on its way to decline. Additionally, safety is a huge concern in the proposed location. Automobiles will be exiting the expressway and driving at high speeds on a sharply curving roadway, which may often be wet or icy as well. On this exit, it is very easy to view through the excessively large and numerous windows of the Hooters "restaurant." How many drivers will be distracted by the temptation to get a "free look" while they are driving? Do you want to accept the possible consequences of a decision to allow Hooters to relocate at that site? I would hope that your social conscience would not allow you to do so. Please do not waiver. Be the honorable person that Troy voters thought you to be when they cast their vote for you.
My comment: No matter which way I vote, many citizens will be unhappy.
