Last night, Mayor Schilling and I attended a presentation by the Friends of the Troy Public Library. It was facilitated by Mary Kerwin, Eve Parsons, Maria Hunciag, and Tammy Duszynski.

It was a very informative session that focused on the need for improvements to the Troy Library. The presentation and tour of the facility drove that message home to me.

As the City Council and City staff begin the process of planning for the Library's future, we also need to ensure that the plans are both cost-efficient and innovative.

The next Troy Community Coalition meeting will take place on Thursday, February 1st at 7 p.m. at the Police/Fire Training Center/4850 John R (east side of John R, just south of Long Lake).

Last month community representatives met to discuss the results of the latest school data for alcohol, tobacco, and drug use.  The data indicated Troy continues to make positive progress.  After the data was reviewed, participants divided up into groups to specifically discuss strategies for the Coalition to work on in the near future in terms of prevention efforts.

This February’s meeting will discuss specific, useful and timely ideas in that regard for the upcoming year.  All community members, as well as representatives from the media are invited to take part in this important meeting.  For additional information, please contact the Troy Coalition at 248-823-5088.
