Happy Citizenship Day!

Today is Alex Lambert’s Citizenship Day. On January 25, 1999, Alex became a United States Citizen. Because Alex was only a 1 year old, he didn’t have to take a test or swear allegiance to the United States. However, we did have to drive to the US Immigration office in Port Huron for the “formal” citizenship proceedings.

Even though it was a coincidence, I appreciated the fact that the US Immigration service arranged to make Alex a citizen on my birthday. So, every year, we celebrate Alex’s citizenship and my birthday on the same date.
