From City of Troy Community Affairs...

Come on in out of the cold for the 11th Annual Community Kaleidoscope, Sunday, January 28. This popular winter community gathering will run from 12-4 pm at the Troy Community Center. There is no admission fee for the event.

Many engaging activities are featured for the entire family, including live entertainment by the Troy Country Fiddlers from Troy High under the direction of Alan MacNair, ethnic dancing, singers, indoor sports and swimming, music by DJ David B, and a community resource expo.  Food will be available at a nominal charge. “This is a great event to help fend off those winter blahs,” Cindy Stewart, City of Troy Community Affairs Director, said.  “There is literally a ‘kaleidoscope of fun’ planned to help folks get better acquainted with Troy’s facilities, programs and services.“

"Take a swim in the Community Center’s indoor pool with waterslides.  Play basketball in the state-of-the-art gym.  Check out the free group fitness classes in Cycle & Sculpt (11 am - 12 pm) and Power Sculpt (12 - 1 pm).  Go bowling (compliments of Troy Lanes) and enjoy other activities such as face painting, story telling, Legos®, Mancala, Bingo and games.  See special demonstrations by the Troy Museum.   Don't miss the chance to meet the Police Canines at 1 p.m. and Sparky and Faith the Fire Dogs at 2 p.m.,” Stewart said.

Community Kaleidoscope is sponsored by the Troy Activities Coordinating Team (T.A.C.T.), a partnership of the City of Troy, the Troy School District, Troy Continuing Education and the Troy Community Coalition.  The Troy Community Center is located at 3179 Livernois (between Big Beaver and Wattles).  For more information, call 248.524.3484 or 248.524.1147.

View Article  Do Suicide Prevention Programs Work?

After reading my blog entry about a teen suicide prevention program to be held in Troy, a citizen brought to my attention an article prepared by the Heritage Foundation.

See the article at...

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/wm566.cfm

She also had the following comments:

I noted a mention of the Teen Suicide Prevention program you have on your website.  I have for years known that suicide education was very bad ...

...I have a detailed article on it if you would like...

...I will keep you updated but a dangerous program called Teenscreen will be brought in after they sufficiently hype up the community.  Then of course they sell more psychotropic drugs.  Ill be sending you some of the questions in the screening they do at schools.  We all would need help if we answered them.

My comment: I would encourage every parent to carefully monitor school or government programs to ensure that the values being taught to their children do not contradict those that are nurtured at home.
