several rats and burrows she's seen in her yard near 14 Mile and Rochester
Road, where the family has lived for nearly 50 years. "It's terrible around

report increased rat complaints. State agricultural officials say more food is
making rats more plentiful in places where they already existed. Sellers'
it-couldn't-happen-here attitude is a mistake made all too often by suburban
residents, experts say. Rats are looking for food and shelter, and they're
finding both, even in places such as Birmingham
and Livonia. Thriving
rat populations have led some cities to take action: Berkley
last week passed an ordinance regulating bird feeding; St. Clair Shores wants to attract owls to
prey on the rodents…
