This is a "letter to the editor" that I sent earlier this week to the Troy Eccentric...
I'm supporting Shelley Taub for the Republican nomination for State Senate District 13 that includes all of the City of Troy. I support Shelley because her issue positions are conservative and consistent, and she is a person of the highest integrity. Shelley Taub has a record of support for low taxes and protecting the Constitutional rights of all citizens. Taub has demonstrated her commitment to community values as seen in her opposition to the Long Lake exit project. Shelley Taub’s record shows that she listens to the concerns of her constituents.
Her opponent is former County Commissioner and former State Representative John Pappageorge. I have the greatest respect for John’s long record of public service in the United States Army, as a Republican Party officer, and as an elected official. Unfortunately, this race has been poisoned by the active involvement of the political insiders who run the Republican State Senate caucus in Lansing. This is a free country and they are welcome to support John Pappageorge. Unfortunately, the nature of their support demonstrates why so many Americans are fed-up with the Republicans leaders in Lansing and Washington.
Over the past few weeks, we've seen these Lansing insiders using a shadowy political action committee named the New Century Fund to run a negative campaign against Shelley Taub. Their automated phone calls and slick campaign flyers have attempted to portray Shelley Taub as a tax and spend liberal. The facts contradict these claims. Shelley has a conservative record during her four years in the State House. For example, on the most recent Michigan Chamber of Commerce Job Providers Index, Shelley Taub rated 100%. That sure doesn’t sound liberal to me.
In their quest to protect the Senate GOP majority and their own jobs, these Lansing insiders and State Senate staffers have failed to live by the late President Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment that “thou shall not speak ill of another Republican.” I hope the voters will repudiate these campaign shenanigans.
Please cast your vote for that candidate who you believe will do a great job for us and who shares your vision for a better Michigan. I’m voting for Shelley Taub because I believe that she is that candidate.
