View Article  Watching the Troy City Council Meeting on the Web
I arrived back in Troy last night from a business trip to Orlando.

Even though I was out of town for the March 27 City Council meeting, I was curious to see if I could watch my colleagues in action over the internet. So, after eating dinner on Monday night, I returned to my hotel room in time to watch the last two hours of the Council meeting.

I was impressed with the quality of the broadcast. The audio was nearly perfect. The video had a few glitches.

If you ever want to watch the Council meeting on the web, go to this web page …

The web page states, “In order to view this stream, it is recommended that you have a high speed internet connection (cable modem, DSL, etc), and Windows Media Player.”

If you are an avid Troy City Council watcher, you'll notice that I won't be in attendance at tonight's meeting. My real-life job has me out of town attending a conference on business continuity. If you're asking yourself, "What is business continuity," it is the modern name for disaster recovery and planning.

I attended a session this morning where one of the speakers talked about the possibility of a bird flu pandemic. It was very eye-opening. After that session, I know what I'll be doing when I get home. We'll be purchasing enough food and water to last our home for at least one week!

March 23, 2006

Tyrone Terrill, the human rights director at St. Paul City Hall in Minnesota, has evicted a toy rabbit, colored eggs and a sign with the words “Happy Easter” from the premises. The display, which was in the lobby of the municipal building, was expelled on the grounds that the Easter Bunny might offend non-Christians.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, responded as follows:

“We are sending Tyrone Terrill the ‘Supreme Bunny Suit’ from buycostumes.com. The adult-sized suit includes ‘a faux white fur bunny suit with attached tail, black velcro closure, a pair of mitts, shoe covers with velcro straps, and a full over-the-head character mask’; expected date of delivery is Monday.

“It is our hope that once Tyrone dons the costume, he will realize that even non-Christians are not offended. And we urge him to read and digest a copy of the First Amendment, preferably while munching on some rancid carrots.”
