View Article  Troy Police Department Welcomes Two New Police Officers and One New Police Service Aide

The City of Troy Police Department will proudly welcome two new Police Officers and a Police Service Aide on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at a Swearing-In and Welcoming Ceremony.  The ceremony will take place on the second floor of the Police Department at  9:00 a.m.  All are welcome to join us as we mark both the excitement and achievement of these new careers in law enforcement service.

The new hires represent on-going efforts to maintain authorized staffing.  The Department is very proud of the continuing commitment to public safety that City Management, City Council, and the community we serve consistently provide.  The ability to recruit and hire highly qualified personnel is essential to the department’s goal of providing professional law enforcement service.  A solid and welcoming community that offers a secure and positive future, supported by dedicated city management and government are key factors in attracting these individuals to this organization.  The City of Troy’s recent ranking as the fifth safest city in the United States, as well as the department’s recent recognition for Excellence in Police Service reinforce the dedication, character, and professionalism of the men and women that make up this organization.  We are happy to welcome the following individuals:

Kristine Maczka is 25 years old and single.  She started her career with the Troy Police Department as a Police Service Aide where she worked in the Lock-Up facility.  She holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Macomb Community College.  She is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Shelby Township.  Her prior law enforcement experiences include working as a Dispatcher with the Oak Park Department of Public Safety, as well as a part time Ordinance Enforcement Officer with the Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Department.  She will graduate from the Macomb Police Academy on Wednesday, December 6, 2006.

Kate Raczka is 27 years old and single.  She began her career with the Troy Police Department five years ago as a Police Service Aide.  She worked in the Lock-up facility during that tenure.  She is about to complete the requirements for an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Oakland County Community College.  She graduated from Lakeland High School in Commerce Township.  She will graduate from the Macomb Police Academy on Wednesday, December 6, 2006.

Peter Guest is our newest Police Service Aide.  Although he began his career in August, we are taking this occasion to formally recognize and welcome him to the organization.  His current assignment is in the Lock-up facility.  Peter is 49 years old, married, and has three sons.  Peter has pervious experience in retail and sales.  Peter graduated from Birmingham Groves High School.

I attended NLC Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Advocacy Meeting this morning. The primary purpose for the meeting was adopting a number of resolutions that will go in front of the NLC Board for its formal action.

While there were several good resolutions, I was disappointed by several others including support for "comprehensive" immigration reform. In my opinion, there's no substitute for an "enforcement first" position.

I will provide a more complete report in the next few weeks.
