I returned to Troy on Saturday evening. Over the next couple of days, I'll provide some additional comments on the 2006 National League of Cities Congress of Cities Meeting in Reno.

During the conference, I attended these workshops:

Looking Beyond Your City: How Local Leaders Can Achieve Economic Success in the Global Market

Beyond Roads and Sewers: Infrastructure to Strengthen Family and Community

Local Leaders Learn How to Develop the Necessary Skills to Communicate with the Media

At the national level, there's a lot of emphasis on encouraging cities to recruit members of the "creative class." I just don't agree with this. To me, the key is to encourage families to make their home in your city.
