Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile, 12/27, 1950 hrs.
Complainants reported two small children had been left unsupervised in the play area in the mall for nearly two hours. Upon arrival, officers located Mall Security attempting to intervene in a verbal argument between one of the complainants and the children’s mother/aunt. The children were both males, almost two years old and four years old, respectively. Witnesses advised officers the children were wandering from the play area and into nearby stores; one witness brought the two year old back to the area after he had wandered off. When the 24-year-old female from Troy returned to retrieve the children, one of the witnesses confronted her about leaving them unsupervised while she shopped. He stated she responded by telling him to shut up, that he didn’t understand, and threatened to “bitch slap” him if he didn’t get away from her. The woman was the two year old’s mother and aunt to the four year old. She told officers she only left the kids 25 minutes. She stated they didn’t want to leave the play area, so felt it would be ok if they continued to play there while she shopped. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Troy, transported to the station, allowed to post a bond, and released. The children were turned over to her there; Protective Services to be notified and possible charges for neglect considered. 05-45748
