Stavro Hamama Plead Guilty to Charges in Attempted Murder Case

After the prosecution rested its case in the Attempted Murder trial of Stavro Hamama, the defendant made a plea agreement to the following charges: Assault w/Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm; Malicious Destruction of Property over $20,000.00; Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Third Degree; and Driving While Intoxicated. This trial arose from a crash that occurred on March 10, 2004 when the vehicle driven by Hamama struck a house on Tallman at the end of Leetonia Street in Troy. Hamama was 17 at the time of the crash and had a blood alcohol content of .18. Investigators learned from his 21-year-old female passenger that just prior to the crash, he had non-consensual sexual contact with her. When she rebuffed his advances, she reported he deliberately accelerated and drove directly into the house. Investigators determined pre-crash speeds were approximately 90 mph. The original charges included Attempted Murder. The plea agreement dismissed the Attempted Murder charge, and replaced it w/the Great Bodily Harm charge. The other three charges Hamama plead guilty to were included in the original set of charges he faced at trial. Sentencing is scheduled in Oakland County Circuit Court for January 9, 2006. 04-7015
